I play Dungeons & Dragons twice a month
My husband is the Dungeon Master, and we play with three of our friends every other Sunday at our kitchen table. It is THE MOST FUN THING IN THE WORLD because it is just playing pretend and rolling dice sometimes. I want to go back in time and teach it to past me, age 7. It is also the best thing ever because I spend the entire time drawing. I can’t HELP but want to draw what we say...

Somebody stole part of our car
It was parked in our driveway overnight this January, and they just pulled up next to it, crawled underneath, and sawed off the catalytic converter. We figured it out the next day, when Scott went out to start the car and it ROARED to life. Our car is a 4-cylinder Honda Element. It could never roar. I had to drive it to pick Scott up one very cold night before we had it repaired. It was so loud...

The Books of Barcamp Cedar Valley
Was: Fun Awesome Energizing. Scott taught me Markdown — really, he gave a Barcamp talk on it, but I was hanging on, like, every word. Am now practicing in in this post. @ajrawson kicked off the morning in the Creative room with the popular book-sharing session. Here’s what people listed as their favorite books/good recent reads: (These all link to Amazon, but you might be...

How to be self-employed on the internet: my...
This is part two of a two-part answer to a question. Read part one (and the question!) here.  Ways to make money on the internets:  First, I do have a gig. I get a regular paycheck with Offbeat Home and also earn commissions for advertorials for sponsors there.  Affiliate programs. YES. I absolutely use affiliate programs. Mainly, I use Amazon — it’s the easiest, gives me great...

How to be self-employed on the internet: a...
Hi Cat! I recently came upon Offbeat Home which then led me to Hipster Housewife. Cannot get enough, btw. Love them both so very much. ^_^ I see in your blog that you work from home, which is a goal I’ve been working towards for some time now. It is crazy overwhelming trying to get started, just for lack of good information I’m sure. I’m assuming part of your...

My main thought this week
In 2011, I learned to have even more thankfulness for the people I know. We have good friends who work hard, make cool things, want to run for office, and are SO SMART we are proud to know them.  We are kind to each other and that means so much, every year. This year proves it will always be important. Go, go 2012!

songs you wish you'd heard in 2011 →
makebrk: next week’s drink & draw playlist:  we’re less than a week away from the next drink & draw. bring your friends, because this one’s going to be a party. there’ll still be 2 hours of figure drawing (this month we have a male model), and this time we’ll have contests. with prizes. yep. can’t ruin the surprise, but it’ll be fun. My favorite song on this post is the last...

I can't even title this. It would just come out...
When I was a little kid, I really enjoyed history. I mean, I really enjoyed a lot of school, but history had a lot of reading and I liked reading and I loved learning about all the people who’d come before us.  When we first learned about the Bill of Rights I remember thinking the people who wrote it were so smart. Smarter than my feeble little kid brain could grasp. They’ve lived...

We love the internet
This month, Scott Rocketship and I made an installation for the first Thinc Iowa conference. It was the first piece we’ve made together.  We love the internet is a collection of QR codes — codes scannable by smart phones with a free barcode reader app installed.   We carefully curated evidence of how awesome the internet is. We collected everything from old-school 90s memes to...

Occupy the Caucus: Join us in Iowa this winter →
occupythecaucus: During the caucus season, the disconnect between politicians and their voters is at its smallest in Iowa, while the political process is in the national media limelight. We will utilize the notoriety afforded to Iowa in this pivotal moment. This attention, coupled with growing support for the Occupy Wall Street movement, gives us the opportunity to propagate sweeping economic...

Officials Increasingly Refusing Unlawful Orders to... →
abaldwin360: Last week, New York police defied governor Cuomo’s orders to arrest hundreds of “Occupy Albany” protesters. October 31st, a Nashville judge refused the Tennessee governor’s orders to break up “Occupy Nashville”. A Baltimore police union and two firefighters unions have written to…
