Verge now on view in the Anderson Gallery at Drake University

First Friday at Drake April 2012

Old ladies love Drake art!

Exhibition Review by Cat

Every spring, Drake’s Anderson Gallery hosts several shows by groups of graduating BA and BFA students. The latest one, Verge, opened on April’s First…

I made this drawing this weekend.

Met with my assistant this morning to prepare for our figure drawing night this week. Now I’m heading to the shooting range with Kyle.

I enjoy that my day starts with coffee with Riane over project to-dos, continues with writing posts, and then moves on to shooting guns. This afternoon, it’ll be back to writing before my monthly critique group meets in Ames.

I love Des Moines because I can live like this.

songs you wish you'd heard in 2011

makebrk: next week’s drink & draw playlist:

we’re less than a week away from the next drink & draw. bring your friends, because this one’s going to be a party. there’ll still be 2 hours of figure drawing (this month we have a male model), and this time we’ll have contests. with prizes. yep. can’t ruin the surprise, but it’ll be fun.

My favorite song on this post is the last video. LOVED.

Paluch: Celebrate No. 1 ranking, then ask 'what if?'

whatiffers:

Tim Paluch of Juice Magazine in Des Moines, Iowa — a weekly print publication of the Des Moines Register — uses What if Des Moines… as a backdrop for asking some hard questions about the city he loves.

This is generally pretty art-related, but I’m branching out here for a moment to say: Hi! Are you in Central Iowa? Then come down to Market Day this weekend.

And you’ll say, But Cat. What is Market Day?

And I’ll reply, Market Day is my project: an indie arts/handmade/vintage market in downtown Des Moines. It runs every month, May - November. We began it in May 2009, and this Saturday, June 26 is the second Market Day of the 2010 season.

When you come you’ll see gourmet cupcakes, letterpress prints, screenprinted tees, vintage jewelry, upcycled vintage jewelry, pottery, breakfast burritos, classic vinyl, and 29 more booths of goods. We collect the best of the midwest’s applicants to bring creative shopping to DSM every month.

Check us out on Facebook. Come to visit. You’ll feel cooler for having done so (and you’ll be supporting local makers. Always cool.)

Thanks to Anna Jones - Art of Photography for the snap.
